about
The song was born as I read Brian Wilson’s autobiography. It floored me.
I felt so encumbered by the weight of his miseries, so I wrote this song from the perspective of Brian Wilson while gazing at an empty box of Frangelico Liqueur. It was at a time where I had just arrived back from New Orleans to Melbourne and I was disciplining myself to write a song each day.
I wrote a great chunk on St Kilda Beach boardwalk, in a little Russian bakery on Carlisle street, and at my kitchen table.
lyrics
Frangelico dreams where are you tonight?
To make all my thoughts allright
Lord knows you’re outta sight
And I can’t hide it for much longer
One of these days I’m gonna wake up in the morning feel alright
I won’t listen to the voices in my mind
Telling me it's not safe to go outside
How I used to be much stronger
I see fear in their eyes
No one laughs and no one cries
No one looks to the passer-by
There is no eye to eye
Frangelico dreams I’m only as good as you want me to be
Getting high’s my specialty
I’m in love with the picture of me
And the blankets I live under
I don’t wanna be sad
But I feel as if I’ve lost all my friends
I’m knocking at death's door again
No one seems to understand
Yes I feel like I’m the other
Don’t listen to the press
It’s just distressing
Media is messing
With your mind and sovereignty
It’s a dream
Don’t listen to the press
It’s just a message
Reading is forgetting
What you know and what you see
You're forgetting what you know
You're forgetting what you know
You're forgetting what you know and what you see
Frangelico dreams

A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the ho-
