Pink Is The Colour has materialised as an expansive and exciting body of work, showcasing Cohen’s unusually refreshing twists on pop arrangements. ‘Baby’ was born in the graveyard of unrequited love, while ‘Music Machine’ became a swagger of sultry defiance set in LA. Throughout the new album Cohen (flanked by a choir of imaginary dolls that exist in her head) creates complex and sugary backing vocals. These signature vocal arrangements—contoured with classic harmonies and nostalgic melodies—form songs remarkable in their originality.
In the new album Cohen pays homage to her musical influences by inviting the listener on a journey: from the grooves of bossa nova, to the lilting sentimentality of strings, to kicking it back on the sprawling highways of rock’n’roll. Honest heartache is woven into glory throughout the record, and during eleven tracks a candid, almost ethereal self-portrait of its songwriter emerges. For Gabriella Cohen, it’s an epitaph of electric wonder, and a definitive fact: Pink is the Colour of Unconditional Love.

Firstly, let me thank Tinder for letting me meet the fantastic Ilya Milstein, who led me to the farmhouse (generously subletted to us by Mr. James Miller) where we would go on to live and record this album. Thank you to Marly Luske at Alchemix Studios for your hard work, kindness and patience throughout my ongoing wifi crisis around the world, Kate Dillon for putting up with every little thing and being such a unique and accomodating engineer and partner in crime, Danni Ogilve for your consistent solid beats and completing a friendship I only dreamt, Arun Roberts, my tall friend, for your musical prowess in so many areas and your fantastic dedication. @remotecontrolrecords and @capturedtracks for your collective hard work and your patience, Lorrae Mckenna for dedicating herself to helping me achieve my dreams, Scott French from Love St studios, and T.K and Hugh Jones for your fine efficiency and musicianship, Jackie Cohen, Jonathan Rado and Sam France for your beautiful enthusiasm and backups in tiny dressing rooms, Scott and Ty for appearing like gifts and being our right hand men in LA and recreating the album on stage- Josh Fruhman for your incredible work and dedication, and lastly, my muse, S.R, - the majority of these songs wouldn't have been written if it weren't for you. Thank you everybody online and offline for your ongoing support, it keeps me going.
This remix LP reframes songs from Dear Nora’s “Skull Example,” sometimes making them sleeker, sometimes disassembling them entirely. Bandcamp New & Notable May 14, 2019
